The Live Aloha Daily Award

In 2015, Suzanne Nakano created the Live Aloha Daily Award, recognizing acts of kindness, giving, and caring. Each year, faculty select ten winners based on their aloha story through their favorite modes of expression—writing, art, music, video, etc. The Conduit Fund provides cash, trophies, and certificates.

The Live Aloha Daily Award program is expanding to more schools.

Major Benefits of the Live Aloha Daily Award

  1. Students communicate how they or those they know live aloha daily through any mode of expression that brings them joy! There are no limits on how they creatively express their experience or observations of aloha. Aside from all forms of writing, art, and music, examples include creating a video game with characters and a storyline that takes gamers on a path to live aloha daily or baking cookies with ingredients, visuals, and flavor that inspire people to live aloha.
  2. Working a little bit each day on their submission leverages the power of compounding to masterfully share aloha via their preferred mode. The Live Aloha Daily Award (LADA) helps students maintain a positive mindset, lifestyle, and character. Explaining their project improves their communication skills. LADA also emphasizes proactive efforts to encourage good behavior and mental health over reactive programs and encourages strong and healthy relationships.
  3. Public recognition of LADA builds awareness of the benefits of maintaining a life of aloha. Living aloha has a ripple effect, increasing the number of people in our community with this positive practice. The winners’ families receive the cash awards, so their involvement as examples of aloha is fundamental to this program’s success.
  4. LADA is an opportunity for students to connect positive thoughts to their actions and understand the consequences and benefits of their choices. Living aloha facilitates students' best decisions, such as deciding in advance to say no to harmful things.
